We use analytics on Wild Things to help us learn and improve the features and website.
However, much of the data collected by Google Analytics, we believe, is unnecessary and collects data we don't need to collect or store about you, our users.
So, today we have replaced Google Analytics with Plausible, a privacy-focused alternative.
By using Plausible Analytics, all the site measurement is carried out absolutely anonymously.
Plausible Features
- Cookies are not used whatsoever.
- No personal data is collected.
- All data is in aggregate only.
- We do not track people across devices, or other websites
- All data is isolated to a single day only
- No data is sent, shared with, or sold to to any third parties
The result:
We get some actionable data to help us learn and improve, while you can keep having a nice and enjoyable experience.
We've added a new tool allowing you to both check the FKT status of your Strava activities and manually upload an activity if it's not on Strava or private.
Some activities are almost instantly matched against trails, but others require manual processing, and these can take a bit longer (sometimes a few days depending on the queue).
This tool lets you check if your activity has successfully been received by us from Strava and whether it's been processed yet.
If it has been processed, it will also tell you if it's successfully matched against a trail for an FKT or challenge points, or not.
If your activity is not on Strava, or private, you can also upload the GPX file from the activity so we can process it for FKTs, challenge points etc...
Awesome.
Just head to our support section and search '
missing fkt
'...Or just click here: https://www.wildthings.club/support/trail-directory/missing-your-time/
We've brought back the report showing any new trail FKTs achieved in recent days.
Be inspired and check it out here, or you can find it under "FKT Report" in the site's Trails and Peaks menu.
You can now jump straight to look at any and all items that are
currently on sale
in the shop.Just head here, or find the 'sale' category in the navigation menu or at the bottom when browsing the categories.
When viewing a trail (or a peak), there's a new option underneath the "I've done it" button, that allows you to mark it as done again, or done in an earlier year.
Clicking this new text under this "I've done it" button then allows you to select the year you did it, as shown in this screenshot 👇
This means you can bag trails and peaks again this year that you've done in previous years, without a Strava connection or automatic FKT.
Thanks to this, when filtering the trail and peak directory, we also have new options in the advanced search filters. Instead of just "done" or "not done", you can now choose:
- all
- never done
- done
- not done this year
- done this year
You'll find this filter at the very bottom of the advanced filters window, which you can open with the filters button as shown in this screenshot 👇
Corrected the icons for the
type or run
, and the colours on the run makeup
chart for trails, so you can now clearly identify the different trail types. When looking at the Fastest Known Times on a trail, there's a new calendar icon.
Hovering (or clicking on mobile) on this will display the date of the member's run.
As there is often a difference between the runnability of a track in summer vs. winter conditions, this will help give you an idea of your expected times.
And yes, I have screenshotted a trail where I have the FKT on purpose 🤣
Thanks to Kirsten Fryer for this suggestion

Return of Trail Author
We have added back in the name of the trail author, for example:
Note: When submitting a new trail, you have the option to remain anonymous, in which case, your name will not be shown.

New Look!
The Wild Things logo is a collision of wild and tidy.
The splatter doesn't stick to the border and that's how we like it.- It's many things all at once—just like a trail adventure.
- It's a trail map.
- It's a directional sign.
- It's a group run through the bush.
- It's a mountain ascent.
- It's footprints in the mud.
- It's the crumbs from your mid-race sandwich.
- The combined experience of the trail community is gathered at the base.
A single adventurer is venturing out, empowered by the collective to push the boundaries.
Because that's how we do trails: even on your own, we're here for each other. It's a community sport and Wild Things is your community.
